🎧 aurals.lc

aurals.lc is a web-based platform I built to make Leaving Certificate aural exam revision actually usable. Where the official SEC site gives students a blank audio bar they have to blindly scrub through, aurals.lc uses AI to automatically detect each section of the exam so students can click straight to Section 1, 2, 3 or whichever bit they're revising. The official exam papers and marking schemes for every year are bundled right alongside the audio.

It's currently used by thousands of LC students, with all growth coming organically through word of mouth and teacher referrals. Endorsed and recommended by both the Institute of Education and Dublin Academy.

I went through a couple of iterations on the section detection: first using audible beeps in the audio, then OpenAI's Whisper, and now a combination of Whisper and ElevenLabs alongside LLMs to detect sections from the transcriptions.
